Several recently developed combustion concepts for diesel engines, including premixed combustion, low temperature diffusion combustion, high-intensified super-clean combustion and stoichiometric combustion, are briefly reviewed. And the operation principles of split-cycle engine is introduced. And then, the hybrid cycle concept, which is featured with low compression ratio, high step-up ratio and high expansion ratio, as well as the hybrid engine concept which is based on the hybrid cycle, are proposed. Finally, a novel type of nozzle, the intersect hole nozzle, which is featured with designable spray penetration and excellent atomization, is introduced for the first time. This type of nozzle can be used in diesel engines and direct injection gasoline engines.
